Residential Inspection Division
Scott Jennings
In 1988, Scott moved to Hawaii and worked as a counselor and work crew supervisor for the Oahu Teen Challenge Center. He then moved back to Detroit in 1991 to work as a custom cabinet and furniture builder, while finishing his degree in Culinary Arts at School Craft College. Shortly after graduation, Scott closed escrow on his property in Paradise Park and moved back to work as a chef and supervisor at a local retirement center. While working as a chef, Scott often worked with Maintenance Hawaii doing carpentry and small home repair jobs. In the beginning of 2004, Scott was offered a job as the primary residential inspector with Island Inspection Services. Since this time, He has completed training with the International Code Council (ICC), is a certified member of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors and is certified by NATEC international for performing Phase 1 ESA’s. In 2006 Scott completed building his own two-story home in Puna as a homeowner builder. He also completed Island Inspections one-year apprenticeship training program, and has performed both commercial and residential building inspections on hundreds of properties. |
Commercial & Environmental Inspection Division
Chris Rither
The founder, Chris Rither, has over 30 years of experience in all areas of the building industry, and is ITA certified and trained. For nearly 15 years as the owner of Maintenance Hawaii, Chris repaired thousands of local residential, commercial and business properties. He has worked with local realtors, property owners, business's and renters and understands the complications and emotions that arise during real estate transactions. In 1998, He began Island Inspection Services and over the years has performed well over one thousand inspections both in the residential and commercial fields. He is a certified member of the Environmental Assessment Association and has completed training and certification with NATEC international for performing Phase 1 ESA’s. Chris holds a BA in communications and is currently working on his masters in Environmental Science. As a real estate investor Chris has also purchased seven properties, and is in the process of developing three of these commercial properties. He is also the author of "The Inspector's Guide For Realtors" and "Common Problems in Hawaii's Homes". |
Specialty Inspection Division
Eric Johnson
Eric began working with Island Inspection Services in 2005. He moved from Wisconsin in 2002 and has finished his degree in Communications at the University of Hawaii in Hilo. Eric has over eleven years experience in the building field, with an extensive background in building maintenance, and environmental resource industry. In Wisconsin he spent 9 years working as a floater at the Rib Mountain Metropolitan Sewerage District. Here Eric received training and hands on experience in electrical, plumbing, general building/grounds maintenance, component repair, remodeling. water testing, forestry and is thoroughly trained in the hydrology field. As director of the specialty inspections, Eric has helped establish the bank, insurance and vacant land inspection division. Eric designed and developed all of Island Inspections data base and report style formatting for specialty inspections. Eric is a certified member of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors and is certified with NATEC international for performing Phase 1 ESA’s. Eric also holds a BA in Communications.

Administrative Division
Carol Jennings
Carol Jennings first moved to Hawaii in 1994 to work as an office clerk with the University of Hawaii’s Astronomy Program. At the university, she coordinated the housing, transportation, and scheduling of all incoming scientists who worked at the two UH telescopes atop Mauna Kea. In 1998, she moved to Colorado Springs and accepted a job as a special events coordinator for Colorado College. At the college she was in charge of all the advertisement, scheduling, clerical work, accounting, and overall coordination of all summer events. In 2004, Carol moved back to the Big Island to work as an administrator and secretary with Island Inspection Services. Carol is also certified to perform ESA’s and serves as the project coordinator for all projects. She basically runs the office, answers the calls, schedules inspections, takes care of accounting, distributes reports and basically keeps the inspectors on track. Carol is also an avid writer and is the newsletter editor for the Hawaii Island Writers Association (HIWA) and is in the process of publishing children’s and fiction novels. |
